Here's a really simple trick to get a lot more out of your net practice without the worry of setting up a camera: HTC Zoe.

Zoe is an app that works on Google's Android system phones that takes 5 second video clips. It's a manual way to copy the automatic functionality of PV/ONE: You can capture video of batting and bowling just by hitting record. Then once you have the video, you can pick out high quality still images that get taken at the same time. From here you can really highlight any technical points.

You can then get to drilling out flaws, and being smug about your strengths.

This also overcomes the issue of taking a lot of footage for a few seconds of action. If you have a phone with low storage, you can now use it without the worry of the memory getting filled with useless video. That makes your phone much better at cricket video analysis.

Of course, it's not perfect.

You have to get someone to press the button at the right moment. If you are a coach you are watching your players through a lens which is not especially mindful.If you are a player you need to rope in one of your mates.

You also need a steady hand (or a tripod, which begins to defeat the object of using the camera you have with no forethought).

HTC Zoe does a lot of other stuff too, but at the moment I can't think of any cricketing use.

That said, it's a free app, it works on almost any modern 'droid (version 4.4 and up to be exact) and it is super convenient. And that's the point.
