Yesterday I tried to "outthink" the batsman by using tactics and a specific plan to get him out rather than just bowling and spinning the ball in the hope of getting him out. My tactic was the following: (I am a left arm wrist spinner bowling at a right handed batsman) The first ball I bowled with 45 degrees side spin and 45 degrees top spin into a line and length where the batsman would want to play the cover drive, he blocked it back to me and I fielded it. The second ball I bowled exactly the same but a bit faster than normal, it rushed him and he played it back to me. I could see he was under pressure so I bowled another ball exactly the same but much slower, he double stepped it and hit it for four runs past mid on. I knew that he would be vulnerable after a big shot so I bowled the ball at the same spot but this time with clean side spin so it would land fuller than the others and would turn and drift more. He played at it and it clipped the outside edge and went straight into slips hands. Do you think it was my tactic that got him out or did he just make an unforced error?
