The role will be pivotal and will lead the Boards Director Group, set its agenda and ensure it is an effective working group at the head of the company to define and lead its strategy, at a particularly important time as the England & Wales Cricket Board launch a new game-wide strategy and Derby hosts the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017. The Chairman will promote a culture of openness and debate amongst the Director and the Senior Management Group.

The successful candidate will provide strong leadership, and support the development and delivery of a plan that aligns the Cricket Board and other cricket organisations in the County to deliver the game-wide strategy, and enable “more play” in Derbyshire. They will ensure that the human and financial resources are available to achieve objectives, review management performance, set the company’s values and standards and ensure that obligations to members and stakeholders are understood and met.

The Chairman will be responsible for leadership of the Board. In particular, he/she will:
 

•     Ensure the effective operation of the Board and its Committees in conformity with the highest standards of corporate governance.
•     Ensure effective communication with stakeholders to ensure that their views are understood by the Board.
•     Set the agenda, style and tone of Board discussions to promote constructive debate and effective decision-making.
•     Chair the Directors Committee and build an effective, forward thinking, and inclusive organisation, initiating change and managing succession on Board and Senior Management appointments.
•     Ensure that all Board Committees are properly established, composed and operated.
•     Ensure comprehensive induction programmes for new Directors and updates for all Directors as and when necessary.
•     Support the Head of Derbyshire Cricket Board in the development of strategy and, more broadly, to support and advise them.
•     Promote effective relationships and relevant communications between non-executive Directors and members of the Cricket Boards professional staff.
•     Ensure that the performance of the Cricket Board, its main Committees and individual Directors is formally evaluated on an annual basis.
