CRICKET JOBS: Head of Communications - ECB (UK)

1. OBJECTIVES OF ROLE
Connect England teams to media and key audiences - including public, partners and ECB people.
Manage all aspects of media – print, broadcast and digital - relating to England teams & talent pathway – with a particular focus on the England men’s senior teams - supporting players, coaches and management.
Develop, manage and integrate communications – on and off the road - and ensure that messages are consistent with ECB strategy, beliefs and behaviours.
Maintain strong collaboration and shared purpose with ECB Communications team and colleagues across the game including the Commercial, Marketing and Digital teams.
Develop strong links with a range of external stakeholders including - but not limited to - the media, government, Sport England, Host Boards and ECB sponsors and suppliers.
Travel with the senior England team on Test or One-Day elements of all home and overseas Tours.
2. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage reactive and proactive media relating to the England Test, ODI and Twenty20 squads (including Team England Management) for home and away bi-lateral tours, plus all ICC events.
Maintain and develop close working relationship with ECB’s broadcast partners and their match-day production teams.
Organise press conferences, prepare media releases, handle interview requests and act as a liaison between the media and Team England, seeking proactive ways of managing stories
Align all media management requirements with the England Women’s Team, England Disability Teams, Lions & U-19’s and national support network.
Forward planning of media management requirements for overseas tours including any Media materials, liaison with host Boards, sponsors, the FCO and NGOs seeking access to the team for PR purposes.
Support appropriate media coaching programmes for players and staff.
Help coordinate player appearances with relevant ECB staff and ensure players are properly prepared and supported at all times.
Advise and brief the Director of England Cricket, members of the England Management team and England players on media issues and take a pro-active approach in managing cricket’s brand and reputation.
Prepare and review articles for the England captain, coach and players for use in official ECB publications and external media.
Co-ordinate the announcement of teams and squads by working in consultation with the Selectors and the Director of England cricket.
Build relationships with First Class County Media Managers and England players’ agents in managing England players’ media activity in ‘off duty time’ including contractual requirements of broadcasters and sponsors both during the reporting and non-reporting periods.
Raise profile of www.ecb.co.uk by ensuring prompt and easy access to England players and management for in-house website team and supporting the digital output including creation of digital content as required
Ensure regular access to England squads for ECB’s official photographic agency to ensure stock of player imagery is up-to-date and available on all ECB channels.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with overseas cricket boards, their respective Media Relations Managers and the ICC’s media department.
To work with Director of Communications in ‘reputation management’ with regard to key strategic issues which affect England teams.
Help to set objectives and budgets for team-related communications and manage measurement against targets
To develop and deliver PR initiatives which support ECB’s cricket relationships with its principal business partner’s and to support ECB CSR programme and initiatives.

- Experience of media in high performance sports environment
- Wide understanding of print, broadcast, digital and social media
- Comfortable travelling for extended periods in UK and overseas
- Confident delivering information and insight to media and players
