The BLACKCAPS Media Manager holds overall responsibility for the planning and management of all online and general communications plus media relations for the BLACKCAPS, White Ferns, other national teams and the domestic Major Association competitions. Primary focus is to manage the day to day media needs of the BLACKCAPS whilst on tour with them at home and overseas. Also critical is building and maintaining relationships with key media, the broadcast rights holders Sky TV and Radio Sport and the commercial partners.
Reporting to the General Manager Commercial and Marketing, the role manages two direct reports, the Online and Communications Advisor and the Communications Advisor. Key internal relationships include the BLACKCAPS team management and support staff, the CEO, Head of Cricket, General Manager National Selection and General Manager Domestic Cricket. Notably, the BLACKCAPS Media Manager will liaise with the Special Projects and Strategy role which covers strategic communications and crisis management.
Ideal applicants will demonstrate success in a strategic communications/PR role preferably within corporate or sporting sectors. They will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment covering multiple concurrent projects with the capability to maximise New Zealand Cricket’s brand, reputation and media coverage. Strengths are required in communications planning, media liaison, an appreciation of commercial imperatives and an understanding of the full range and potential of media and online channels. An understanding of cricket is an advantage and the willingness to travel on the majority of BLACKCAPS tours is essential.
